Don't forget to ...

  1. Select a LAWYER as soon as possible. They have lot's of work to do!
  2. Finalize financing through your bank or a Mortgage Broker
  3. Notify Landlord or Property Manager of your move date (elevator booking etc)
  4. Notify Services and Utilities of your intended move (Create new account or change existing)

      • Alarm Monitoring Service
      • Driver's Licence  and Vehicle Registration (within 10 days)
      • Post Office - Mail Forwarding and Change of Address
    • Make home insurance arrangements for your new home
    • Advise auto insurance company regarding your change of address. New travel distances could affect your coverage.
    • Notify Banks, Credit Card and other Financial Service Firms
    • Notify membership organizations (Churches, Clubs, Civic Groups, Sports and Fitness clubs)
    • Notify Government Agencies such as Income Tax, Family Allowance, Old Age Security, Veterans Affairs, Canada Pension Plan, Maternity Benefits, OHIP, Ministry of Transport re Drivers License and Vehicle Registration)
  5. Make arrangements for the new School Year

  6. Make Moving Arrangements:
    • Book a  Moving Company - advise of moving date
    • Book elevators if necessary
    • Purchase packing materials (bins, boxes, padding, tape etc)
    • Purge present home of unnecessary things - (give to charities, or hold a garage sale!)
  7. Plan ahead for work at your new home
    • Decor - Painting, carpet, flooring, shutters and window coverings
    • Improvements - Cabinets, counters, trim, closet organizers
    • Minor renovations - Doors, windows, roofing
    • Major renovations and additions - Line up an Interior Designer or Architect to ensure all work meets with Building Code Requirements
    • Landscaping and Exterior - walks, driveways, pool areas etc
